My Life Isn’t Safe – Nnamdi Kanu Seeks Transfer From DSS Custody To Kuje prison

Detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has raised alarm over his safety in the custody of Department of State Service (DSS), saying his life is in jeopardy.
Consequently, Nnamdi Kanu has filed a suit against the federal government over his alleged maltreatment.
Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, in a suit filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja prayed the court to order the transfer of Nnamdi Kanu from the DSS custody to Nigerian Correctional Service Centre in Kuje, Abuja.
Recall that Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court had ordered that Kanu be detained at DSS custody pending the resumption of his trial on July 26 after he was rearrested and repatriated in late June.
However, his lawyer who was recently permitted to visit his client, said he is currently facing health challenges threatening his life.

“That it will serve the interest of Justice and enhance fair hearing for this Honourable Court to transfer the Applicant from the State Security Service to the Nigerian Correctional Service Centre in Kuje, Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court.
“That the Defendant undertakes to bear any cost incidental to getting the medical experts to attend to his ill health while in custody. The defendant can only be alive to stand his trial, which cannot be guaranteed because of his rapidly deteriorating health situation”, Ejiofor told court.
