Security Agents Comb Spot Army Provost Marshal was Killed

Men of the Nigerian Military and other security agencies have launched an ‘aggressive’ joint operation at the Koton Karfe axis of Kogi State in the area where a former Provost Marshal of the Nigerian Army, Major General Hassan Ahmed, was shot dead by unknown gunmen.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG had reported that the general was killed on Thursday while he was returning to Abuja from the Kogi State capital.

The Koton Karfe axis has recently been a hotspot for kidnapping by armed bandits, who usually target motorists.

Aside from the incidence of kidnappings, bandits also receive ransom for persons they abduct at their enclaves, within the axis.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, confirmed the demise of General Ahmed in a statement titled, “Former Army Provost Marshal Passes On”.

He said “With a heavy heart, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya, Officers, and Soldiers of the Nigerian Army regret to announce the passing on of Maj Gen Hassan Ahmed, a former Provost Marshall of the Nigerian Army.

“The sad incident occurred when the senior officer’s vehicle was attacked by gunmen while transiting along Lokoja-Abuja road yesterday 15 July 2021.

“A delegation from the Army Headquarters led by the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army) Maj Gen Anthony Omozoje has visited the widow and other members of the family of the deceased former army provost.

“Members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) led by the Deputy National President, Mrs. Stella Omozoje have also visited the family to condole with them.”

The army spokesman said the remains of the deceased senior officer will be accorded a befitting burial at the Lungi Barracks Cemetery today Friday 16 July 16, 2021.
