Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho was on Monday night apprehended by the International Criminal Police Organisation in Cotonou, Benin Republic, the secessionist lawyer, Yomi Alliyu (SAN), has disclosed
Alliyu made the disclosure in a statement on Tuesday.
The self-styled freedom fighter and separatist was arrested in an airport in Cotonou while allegedly making moves to fly to an European country.
Alliyu said Sunday Igboho was arrested alongside his wife, who is a German citizen.
The counsel revealed that the arrest was in collaboration with the Nigerian government.
He, however, implored the German government to weigh in on the situation to contain the excesses of the Nigerian government.
He appealed to the German Government and other the international community “to rise up and curb the impunity of the Nigerian Government by refusing any application for extradition of our Client who already has application before the International Criminal Court duly acknowledged”.
