Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has revoked the certificate of occupancy of the land housing Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu’s Amagba Farm in Amagba Village in Oredo Local Government Area.

Ize-Iyamu was Obaseki’s main challenger in the 2016 and 2020 governorship elections in Edo State.

The farm which also has a training school where young farmers are trained employs dozens of persons. The extensive farm covering about 18 hectares in the village has different kinds of livestock including chicken, goats and such.

No reason was given for the letter of revocation of the C of O addressed to Ize-Iyamu which was said to have been at the instance of Governor Obaseki. The letter was dated July 22, 2021.

Sources close to Ize-Iyamu confirmed the move saying that the land which has been in continuous use as a farm for close to 12 years has fully built up structures. No reason was given for the revocation of the land.

Sources close to Ize-Iyamu, however, infer political motif for the decision given what was claimed as the politician’s sustained act of political goodwill after his 2020 election defeat.

One source said that if the governor needed a land for development that there was much plenty of land available and not one that is fully built up and contributing to the economy of the state.

The letter conveying the revocation of the Certificate of Occupancy issued by Mrs. Nora Ohiwere, chief registrar of Titles and Instruments, do State Geographic and Information Systems said that the revocation was at the instance of the governor.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the revocation was first published in the newspapers without informing Ize-Iyamu and the letter it was gathered formalizes the governor’s action which it was learnt is going to be challenged in the courts.
