Delta APC: Buni Told To Ignore Newspaper Tigers

Edo APC attacked

The state caucus of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Delta State has called Governor Mai Malam Buni, Chairman, Caretaker Extra-Ordinary/Convention Planning Committee, CCEPC of the party to disregard the desire of those it called newspaper tigers in the party bent on voiding the recent ward congresses.

Noting that the group led by the Minister of State for Labour, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN wilfully boycotted the congresses on the claim that it was illegally organised, the caucus affirmed that they had no right to at the same time call on the CCEPC to void the exercise.

In a strongly worded letter to Governor Buni made available to  GreenWhiteGreen GWG, the group inclduing party chairmnan, Prophet Jones Erue, Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege among in their counter petition to Buni said:

WE CONDEMN THE RECKLESS “CALL FOR THE CANCELLATION OF DELTA STATE APC WARD CONGRESS” BY A FEW NOISY AND CONFUSED RABBLE-ROUSERS

On Saturday, July 31, 2021, our great Party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) under your calm, steady and purposeful leadership successfully organised its Ward Congresses nationwide. Satisfied with the overwhelmingly successful outcome of this generally peaceful process in our State in particular, the Delta State APC Caretaker Committee ably led by Prophet Jones Ode Erue and our State Caucus have proudly commended and passed a vote of implicit confidence on Your Excellency’s Caretaker Extra-Ordinary/Convention Planning Committee (CECPC). In doing so, we took note of the thoughtful words of the Chairman of the Delta State Ward Congress Committee, Hon. Matthew Omegara, who addressed newsmen in Asaba on Sunday, August 1, 2021, and rightly stated that: “The congress went smoothly and peacefully. The committee received report of free and fair Ward Congress election to bring in the new leadership of our great party.”

Your Excellency, it is on record that on July 31, 2021, a tiny ‘Axis of Artificial Troubles’ publicly called for a boycott of the Ward Congress in Delta State. These few noisy and lawless mischief-makers operating outside our Party’s Constitution as ‘Delta State APC Leaders Council’ did so on the outrageous and cheap propaganda that the CECPC has been declared illegal vide a non-existent decision of the Supreme Court. Unmistakable in their choice to abandon the Ward Congress, they published thus: “We hereby categorically state that we have since informed all party members to boycott the said Ward Congresses as same is devoid of any legitimacy in both procedure and substance as it relates to the Guidelines (and in the face of the Supreme Court judgment, the legitimacy of those Guidelines may be called to question later).” Indeed, they contended unequivocally that “… the official actions of Gov. Mai Mala Buni serving as Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee in respect [of] our great party is a NULLITY.”

Earlier, these few self-entitled boasters had laboured in vain to abort the due conduct of the Ward Congress in Delta State through deliberate disruptive public acts of shame calculated to grievously harm the image of our Party by ridiculing Your Excellency’s broadly trusted and fair national leadership of our Party as either dysfunctional or dead and buried. They also levelled spurious criminal allegations against over 7,000 dedicated grassroots leaders of our Party who contested the Ward Congress across the 270 Wards of Delta State and won convincingly just to bring our Party to maximum public opprobrium. And these are characters who dare to call themselves ‘leaders’ of our Party.

It is pertinent to state too that our Caucus worked harmoniously under the capable and pragmatic leadership of the Deputy President of the Senate, His Excellency, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, in the spirit of give and take for the success of the Ward Congress. No leader got all he or she wanted, but everyone is by and large satisfied with the mutual respect accorded every willing leader as a precursor to the Ward Congress. This is how it should be, and it essentially made the Ward Congress a great success. Those who are crying foul are those who hate both healthy competition and compromise which are necessary for collective success in politics.

Having needlessly boycotted and excluded themselves from the successful Ward Congress, and now obviously confused, this tiny group of mainly electoral eunuchs and newspaper tigers on Friday, August 6, 2021, callously and unashamedly called on the CECPC in a paid Vanguard advert to cancel the duly conducted Ward Congress which they still falsely and unrepentantly claim on record that the CECPC lacks the legal competence to conduct in the first place. They are even shedding crocodile tears to disturb His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR to whip the CECPC for them while also shockingly maintaining that Mr. President and NEC have no powers under the APC Constitution to constitute the CECPC in the first place. Still, approbating and reprobating, they equally want the same CECPC to award them a trophy of good behaviour for abandoning the Ward Congress they termed as an illegality by cancelling it (Congress) for them without lawful or moral justifications. Suddenly, they are now hallucinating that the CECPC (a “NULLITY” in their eyes) would conduct another Ward Congress for them. All ironies and confusion!

Clearly, an arrogant penchant for mischief has robbed this small group the capacity to appreciate that the Ward Congress as an internal matter of our great Party was conducted pursuant to guidelines duly issued by the CECPC. By the said guidelines, there is a simple mechanism for responsibly resolving possible human errors in the process, if any. Deliberately targeting our Party and its leadership, key figures, members and strategic interests with wild allegations, vicious lies, blackmail and empty threats is not part of the conflict resolution process prescribed in the guidelines. Rather, there is a time-bound appeal process which nobody submitted to because there is no credible evidence whatsoever supporting the noisy attempt to annul the successful Ward Congress, which was duly monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies.

It should be emphasised that while our party leaders and faithful were at their various Ward Congress venues organising and participating in the hugely successful Ward Congresses, all the noisemakers were comfortably cocooned in their homes outside Delta State having fun, convinced that their wish to truncate the CECPC through empty threats would work. By this, they had obviously believed that their plot to nullify the Ward Congress would ultimately materialise. It is therefore extremely dishonourable that having failed in their irresponsible bid to oust the CECPC, they still believe that somehow, they could still achieve their wish to cancel the Ward Congress through the same CECPC – a fantasy predicated wholly on their continuing unconscionable, unthinkable and unrepentant plot to oust the CECPC and permanently imperil our great Party and its interests.

Their false belief that they can just simply nullify the will of our Party’s members duly expressed at the Ward Congress with a litany of lies and media noise, speaks to unhidden political naivety. It is either they are: complaining about the sale of Ward Congress forms or confused about the venues of the Ward Congress they boycotted; castigating the Chairman of the CECPC or talking down on our innocent, hardworking Women Representative in the CECPC; insulting the Deputy President of the Senate or disrespecting the Delta State Chairman of our Caretaker Committee; and confused about ad-hoc committees set up for the Ward Congress or just engaged in tainting the names of good, innocent members of our Party. They are confused about everything!

Again, this Caucus maintains that it is better for the broom to sweep together as a bunch. Some may not yet know, but the dynamics shaping the APC in Delta State are deliberate, extraordinary, strategic and earthquaking. They are being carefully designed for unstoppable electoral victories in 2023. With God, nobody or force can stop APC in Delta from within or without. Therefore, we strongly advise those who may be willing spoilers to stop now because they will not win. We have the requisite capacity to correct genuine errors internally. Adult mischief is not a virtue, and we condemn it.

While assuring Your Excellency of our unshakable support for the great work the CECPC is doing in the best interest of our great Party, we ask for your continuing premium attention to our absolute commitment to change the political narrative in Delta State in 2023 under the trusted leadership of the Deputy President of the Senate, His Excellency, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.
