A Nigerian man, Noel Njoku, has been shot dead in the United States while working as a delivery driver for a company known as DoorDash.

Police in Prince George’s County responded to a Mitchellville residential area around 12:20 a.m. for reports of a man suffering from gunshot wounds.

The officers found 48-year-old Njoku, who they say had been delivering food when he was shot multiple times, according to police.

According to the police, a preliminary investigation revealed the Nigerian man was delivering food to a home in the area when he was shot. He was taken to a hospital, where he died. It wasn’t immediately clear who killed him or why.

“I know the DoorDash guy was delivering for my sister, and that was it — I don’t know anything else,” Wendy Kiser, who sometimes stays in the house, told WUSA.

Njoku was a happy, “peace-loving person” who moved to the U.S. from Nigeria decades ago. He had only recently started working for DoorDash, his brother, Chidi Njoku, told newsmen.
