2023: Omo-Agege Will Checkmate Okowa, PDP
By Nick Ovuaokporie
In about two years from now, preparations would be in top gear for the swearing-in ceremony of a new Governor of Delta State. The new Governor at the Osadebay House will be His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.
In the meantime, like a chess game, the two major political parties in the state; the All Progressives Congress, APC and the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, have started setting the board and checking to confirm if the numerical and alphabetical designs of the chess mat are in order.
Soon the battle will commence and the PDP administration as many observers have predicted, would be stunned in the ultimate calculation game in a short while from now. Their failure they say, would come as a result of the damage the ruling party has caused to the economic fortunes of Delta State. A failure propelled by incompetence, crass ignorance about governance and the inability to manage the state’s enormous resources, thus making Delta State the runt amongst her oil producing peers in the region.
On the other hand, the APC in Delta State under the leadership of the charismatic Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, like a Chess Grandmaster, is also poised to position his own pieces masterly. With a focus to solidify and dominate the center, from whence the APC intends to squeeze and give the opponent no breathing space until total victory is achieved.
These of course are chess terms, but they share similarities with the non-combatant struggle for power in the political arena, where the blows of the opponent could be no less devastating and the effect of defeat crushing.
Moreover, recent divisions in Delta State PDP due to the activities of factions within the party and other ethnic agendas, have given credence to the imminent collapse of the party, thus providing the prospect of a walk in the park for the APC in the general election of 2023.
Consequently, while the PDP fumbles, the star man of the All Progressives Congress in the state, Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has continued to grow in leaps and in bounds not only in Abuja, where he holds sway as the Deputy President of the Senate, but across Delta State where he has influenced projects not only in Delta Central, but in the Northern senatorial district as well.
The Senator has also sponsored many Bills which have positively affected the lives of not only residents of the state, but the nation as a whole. The Bills include The Dormant Account Bill 2016, to review and manage unattended funds in the Nation’s banking system and improve the economic fortunes of the nation.
Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege’s developmental strides in virtually all sectors, including the building of schools, installation of solar powered streetlight projects and water reticulation schemes in Delta Central will speak for him during the electioneering process. He it was who reached out to the aged and the vulnerable with palliatives during the novel COVID-19 lockdown. This gesture set a template for other lawmakers and well-to-do Nigerians to emulate.
This is in addition to the facilitation of numerous electricity and road rehabilitation projects across many cities of Delta State which have made him the synosure of all and sundry.
It should also be emphasized that Ovie Omo-agege is humility personified. He is very accessible and importantly, a detribalized administrator whose focus is on the rapid infrastructural development of Delta State.
DSP Ovie Omo-Agege is a Pan-Delta patriot, as evidenced in his unbiased spread of political appointments, with aides from the three senatorial districts of the state. In fact, his Deputy Chief of Staff is from Delta North. He also made appointment of Senior Aides from Ijaw, Itsekiri and Isoko nations.
By and large, one can deduce that with the failure of the PDP in the governance of Delta State over the years, and the sterling performance of the Obarisi of Urhoboland as mentioned above, the stage is set for a smooth wrenching of power from a totally failed government. All the sterling performances of the DSP would factor in the outcome of the imminent chess match for the gubernatorial race for 2023.
