Olu of Warri Ologbotsere

The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III is set to carry out a sweep of the Warri traditional council, that will bring to a formal end the parade of Chief Ayiri Emami as the Ologbotsere of Warri.

The sweep is to be announced in a public notice to be issued on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 in which the Olu who has been well embraced from far and near, will announce the process for the revalidation of all chiefs. The revalidation will see chiefs who are returned or appointed being given traditional beads symbolic of their engagement in the new royal dispensation.

Ā GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the dissolution is to be announced in the first public notice to be issued under the seal of the new Olu on September 1, 2021.

The Public Notice is titled Dissolution of All Traditional Councils, Committees, Sub-Committees and Revalidation/Confirmation of Chieftaincy Titles in Warri Kingdom.

Chief Ayiri who is certainly set to be sacked is only the fourth person to be honoured as the Ologbotsere of Warri in about 400 years. He took the title after the highly esteemed Chief Alfred Rewane.

Besides his legal and other assertions against the emergence of Ogiame Atuwatse III as the next Olu after he was picked, Ayiri caused consternation by not just staying away from the coronation, but by making a public display of his presence at the coronation of the emir of Bichi in Kano State which took place the same day.

The public notice reads in part:

ā€œPursuant to Itsekiri custom and tradition regarding the powers conferred on me as the Olu of Warri and by virtue of the provisions of Section 25 of the Delta state traditional rulers council and chiefs lawā€¦I Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri hereby announce the dissolution of all traditional Council s, committees, and the scheduled exercise of revalidation /confirmation of Chieftaincy titles effective from the 2nd day of September 2021ā€, he said.

ā€œFor the avoidance of doubts, the Warri Council of Chiefs, the Olu Advisor Council (Ojoye Ojisan), the Olu in Council, all standing, Ad-Hoc and Sub-Committees are dissolved forthwith; the mandatory revalidation/confirmation of chieftaincy titles shall commence on the 2nd day of September 2021.

ā€œThe timetable for the revalidation and confirmation exercise shall be made available at the Palace Secretariat from the 1st day of September 2021 and the process of registration of all chieftaincy titles with the prescribed authority in accordance with the provisions of section 25 of the Delta State Traditional Rulers, Council and Chiefs Law, (supra) shall follow immediately after the revalidation and confirmation exercise.
