Oyedepo @ 67: Apostle Of Faith
It is remarkable that David Oyedepo who is one of Nigeria’s leading preachers of faith is married to a lady called Faith! He was born on September 27, 1954, in the quiet, ancient town of Oshogbo capital of present-day Osun State. He was born into a mixed-religion (Muslim/Christian combo) parental background and a native of Omu Aran in Kwara State. He is an architect and founder of Living Faith Church, (aka) Winners Chapel with its headquarters in Ota, Ogun State.
Oyedepo is known to have been inculcated with spiritual discipline early enough, especially in the areas of prayerfulness and tithing, virtues that provided a solid foundation for his success in the ministry.
He was reported to have met the Lord at the tender age of 15 and never gone back in serving the Lord since then.
The beginning of Winners’ Chapel church can be traced back to May 1981 when Oyedepo at age 26 said he had an 18-hour vision from God. In this vision, God spoke to him saying, “Now the hour has come to liberate the world from all oppressions of the devil, through the preaching of the Word of faith; and I am sending you to undertake this task”.
The international headquarters of the church called Faith Tabernacle is located in Ota, Ogun State having been moved from the pioneering headquarters in Kaduna where he started.
The Winners’ Chapel International network of churches is located in over 300 cities, in all states of Nigeria, and in several cities in 45 African nations, Dubai, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Oyedepo is today one of the leading lights of the Christian charismatic movement in Africa and has been referred to as one of the most powerful preachers of faith in Nigeria.
He is the Chancellor of Covenant University and Landmark University and was named in 2011 by Forbes magazine as the richest pastor in Nigeria.
