Iheanacho Suffers Passport Setback Ahead Of Legia Warsaw tie

Kelechi Iheanacho was set to fly back to England on Wednesday night after the Leicester forward was blocked from entering Poland by border control.

Iheanacho arrived in the capital of Warsaw at around 3.30 pm but was soon informed that he would not be allowed into the country due to a documentation issue with his passport, in an embarrassing episode for Leicester.

The Nigeria international was set to start for Leicester in their Europa League tie against Legia Warsaw, but frustrated officials were arranging for him to fly back to England later tonight. It is understood that Iheanacho’s documents did not tally with his passport, so border control at Warsaw airport refused to allow him to join up with the rest of the squad.

Brendan Rodgers, the Leicester manager, said: “We’ve had an issue with Kelechi so his documentation coming into the country wouldn’t suffice. Unfortunately, he’s not available to play which is a shame because he would have played in the game. The paperwork didn’t allow him to enter the country, which is unfortunate. We’ll have to look at that when we get back.”

The unexpected setback will deprive Iheanacho of a rare start this season, with £20 million summer signing Patson Daka now expected to play in his absence.
