The Kano State Government has strongly denied claims of the arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC of the arrest of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s wife, Hafsat saying it was a rumour.

The government on Tuesday said the viral reports of the arrest were simply fueled by rumours essentially lacking any attribution.

Several news channels and websites had on Tuesday reported the arrest of the First Lady based on a petition allegedly authored by her son, Abdulazeez Ganduje.

A statement by the commissioner for information, Malam Muhammad Garba expressed regrets over the viral story of the EFCC arrest of the governor’s wife which he said was not attributed to any source.

According to him “unfortunately, the fake story is being peddled on social media platforms without confirmation from either the government or the EFCC

Mrs. Ganduje according to sources had earlier been invited to report to the EFCC’s Abuja headquarters on September 13. She, however, did not appear as she was not available on the scheduled date having travelled to the United Kingdom for the graduation of her son.

The commissioner affirmed that Ganduje’s wife was not arrested or detained as implied by the viral reports as according to him, she was going about her responsibilities as First Lady of Kano.

The commissioner thus called on the good people of Kano state to disregard  the rumour of the arrest of Governor Ganduje’s wife and also remain calm.
