Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s wife, Hasfat Ganduje has been released by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC following an overnight questioning arising from a petition levelled against her by her son.

The arrest on Monday evening, according to Premium Times, followed her failure to honour an invitation to defend herself over the petition submitted by her son. The son according to news reports has meanwhile, left the country for Egypt.

Mrs. Ganduje had given as her excuse for not honouring the invitation from the EFCC the fact that she travelled to the United Kingdom for her son’s graduation.

The son in the petition against Mrs. Hasfat Ganduje had accused her of involvement in a land scam.

A source privy to her arrest told Premium Times that “she was arrested this (Monday) evening.”

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Abdulazeez had dragged his mum, Hafsat Ganduje, to the EFCC, with using her position as the wife of the governor to enrich herself.

The latest development is bound to unsettle Governor Ganduje who had earlier been alleged to be involved in a bribery case after he was shown in a viral video allegedly pocketing bribes in his babariga.

Premium Times reported that following from its sources that the petition by Abdulazeez against his mother alleged that he was approached by a property developer to help facilitate the acquisition of some plots of land in Kano with some hundreds of thousands of US dollars and at least 35 million naira as “facilitation commission”.

PREMIUM TIMES further learnt that Abdulazeez said he paid the sum in dollars to his mother, Mrs Ganduje.

“But three months later, (the property developer) discovered that the plots of land he wanted and had paid the first family for had been allocated to other buyers and he then requested to be refunded,” one source added.

Ganduje’s wife was released on Tuesday morning according to a source in Kano.
