Osun Police Begins Investigation Into Alleged Sexual Assault On Detainees By Officers

The Osun State Police Command has begun investigations into the alleged sexual exploitation and harassment of two female suspects by policemen while in detention.

The Command Police Public Relations Officer Yemisi Opalola, stated in an interview that the Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode had called for an investigation into the alleged abuse of the female suspects immediately he read the reports.

Opalola also disclosed that the Commissioner who was furious at the allegations, assured that he will deal with any police personnel who has at any time or the other taken advantage of suspects involved in any case.

She explained that the Osun Police boss respects the rights of every individuals including suspects since they are yet to be pronounced guilty by the court.

Joy Esu Ogunmba and Mrs. Aina Olawoyin had recently accused some policemen attached to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and Intelligence Department of the command of sexually assaulting them while in their custody.

Ogunmba who was arrested for alleged kidnapping had revealed that while she was in police detention, she was sexually exploited twice by an officer named Taofeek while Mrs. Olawoyin, an armed robbery suspect also revealed that an officer named Dare sexually harassed her and demanded for sex as condition to help her out of the case.
