UEFA has fined England N57 million ($100,000) and consigned the national team to play its next two home matches in an empty stadium.

The punishment came from the riotous behaviour of English supporters during the final Euro tourney match with Italy.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that during that match there were several crowd inspired provocations including the pointing of a laser gun at the Italy goalkeeper during the final match.

The decisions were.

The FA has commissioned an independent review to look into the disturbances.

“Although we are disappointed with the verdict, we acknowledge the outcome of this UEFA decision,” the England FA said of the fine and match ban.

“We condemn the terrible behaviour of the individuals who caused disgraceful scenes in and around Wembley Stadium at the Euro 2020 final, and we deeply regret that some of them were able to enter the stadium.”

The investigation was opened by UEFA within a week of the conclusion of the final match of Euro 2020 that saw Italy defeat England.

That final match saw the field being invaded by fans, throwing of objects. There was also disturbance when the national anthem was being played before the commencement of the final match.

In imposing the fine and the two-match ban on England, UEFA’s disciplinary panel cited “the lack of order and discipline inside and around the stadium, for the invasion of the field of play, for throwing of objects and for the disturbances during the national anthems.”
