Delta APC members in a brawl at the 2018 National Convention

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Delta State has effectually been factionalised with the emergence of a parallel state executive endorsed by the Festus Keyamo led APC Council of Leaders.

Keyamo, the minister of state for labour and productivity confirmed the development to  GreenWhiteGreen GWG on Saturday night. He said that the list of state executive was endorsed by his council.

The parallel leadership has Hon. Barrister Silas Buowe at the head of a 36 man exco running parallel to the executive that emerged at the recent state congress where veteran political strategist, Elder Omeni Sobotie emerged as chairman of the party. He replaced Prophet Jones Erue. Sobotie was also Special Adviser on Legislative and Plenary Matters and Political Affairs to the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.

Mr. Nick Ovuakporie who had acted as the director of publicity in the party and also special assistant to Omo-Agege had also emerged as the new secretary of the party at the state congress that was boycotted by Keyamo and his allies in the Delta APC Council of Leaders.

Sobotie is from Delta Central while Ovuakporie is from Delta South.

However, in the executive produced by consensus by the Keyamo group, Buwoe, a chieftain of the party from Isoko was returned as chairman.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Buwoe is also a minister of the gospel like the immediate past chairman of the party from Isoko, Prophet Jones Erue.

Asked on Saturday if he was privy to the new list with Buowe as chairman, Keyamo responded to the affirmative, a development that is bound to worry stakeholders in the party as it effectively confirms the factionalisation of the party in the state.

Giving reason for the emergence of the factional exco in a statement, the Council of Leaders said:

“In line with the Constitution of the All Progressives Congress and the Guidelines for the 2021 Congresses of the Party which stipulates consensus amongst stakeholders of the Party, we the COUNCIL OF LEADERS of APC in Delta State, having met severally to consider the various and diverse interests within the Party and after consulting widely with other stakeholders have resolved to release a harmonised list of State Executive Members who shall be recognised by all APC faithfuls in the State and will run the affairs of the Party henceforth.

“The State Exco will work with the list of existing Local Govt and Ward Executives already in place that has since been harmonised by leaders at all levels. They will release the list in due course. A date and time for the inauguration of the State Exco would be fixed soon.

“We are not unaware of a few leaders who refused to join the arrangement of the Council of Leaders put together by the CECPC of the Party and who decided to be part of a one-man-show. Their positions and spaces within the Council of Leaders are still open anytime they are done with their solo runs. Our Council is not discriminatory, but open to ALL leaders.

The Keyamo group in announcing its executive and bringing to fore the factionalisation of the party in the state, said:

“In the circumstance of the above, ALL APC faithful in Delta State are to be henceforth guided by the harmonised list below:
