One of those trapped in the 21-storey building that collapsed in Lagos on Monday was supposed to travel to America the same day that the building collapsed on him and several other victims, it was revealed.

The disclosure came as it emerged that five dead bodies had been recovered from the collapsed structure which caved in sometime around 2.30 p.m. on Monday.

A witness, who is also a worker on site, said that five dead bodies were seen at the top of the rubbles of the collapsed building.

He added that two persons had so far been rescued alive.

NAN also saw two bodies being removed away from the rubbles shortly before emergency responders, comprising Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, National Emergency Management Agency and Lagos Building Control Agency arrived at the building site.

Excavators from the relevant agencies were still being awaited as at 5.45 p.m. while crowd control remained a challenge at the scene.

Television channels and other news agencies were faster to report at the site of the collapsed building than the emergency responders sources at the scene disclosed.

A source said that among those trapped in the building was the owner of the building who had not been rescued as at late on Monday.

Also among the victims of the Lagos building collapse was a man who was supposed to be on his way to America on Monday night. The driver who was to take him to the airport revealed the information at the site as he lamented the fate of the man who was still trapped inside.
