Oluwo escaped 21-storey building collapse

Hours after the 21-storey Ikoyi, Lagos building under construction collapsed, it emerged that the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi toured the building under the supervision of the owner of the building, Femi Osibina about three weeks ago. Many reacting to the pictures which surfaced on social media platforms claimed the Oluwo was lucky to have escaped the building collapse by arranging his visit three weeks ahead of the collapse happened on Monday, November 1, 2021.

Telu Initiatives- Greater Iwo Empire, a pro-Iwo group which posted the news of the monarch’s tour of the facility in October said that the building was expected to be a 22-storey building from which the whole of Lagos could have been seen at a glance.

Pictures of the Oluwo of Iwo touring the now crumbled structure have w flooded the social media with divergent comments.

There were also some who observed cracks in the building structure.

There were also some who said that the building could not have collapsed on the Oluwo as they alleged that he would have disappeared had the building collapsed during his visit.

It was nevertheless the assertion of most that the Oluwo of Iwo was lucky to have escaped the collapse of the 21-storey building during his tour of the Lagos building.

I read that 15 storey was approved but he built 21. The foundation done might have not been strong enough for that building. I doubt if they cut cost on materials in high rise building construction. It’s too risky. Unless the developer did not monitor the material supply adequately. Too bad.
