‘Thank God, Thank God,’ Lagos Building Collapse Survivor Says After Rescue On Tuesday
Two survivors were brought out of the debris of the 21-storey building that collapsed in Ikoyi, Lagos on Monday GreenWhiteGreen GWG has gathered. The two survivors were brought out in a critical condition though one survivor was able to mumble ‘thank God, thank God,” as they were rushed to the hospital.
The two who were brought out of the debris brought to nine, the number of survivors that have so far been brought out officials confirmed on Tuesday.
Five dead bodies have also been brought out of the debris as emergency responders continued to use improvised and other machines to search out survivors.
The rescue operation at the Gerald Road, Ikoyi, Lagos where the building collapsed went into the night of Monday leading to the rescue of one survivor sometime around 11.00 p.m.. The emergency responders were said to have worked under the gaze of flood light.
All the victims so far brought out dead or alive were males.
The victims brought out alive on Tuesday appeared frail and among those so far rescued alive was a Togolese.
Meanwhile, the deputy governor of Lagos State, Dr. Femi Hamzat who has been monitoring the rescue operations has promised that the State Government would ensure that the rescued victims are properly taken care of.
He spoke while he visited the victims at the state owned hospital in Lagos Island.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the 21-Storey building collapsed on Monday afternoon while it was still under construction.
Lagos state government officials have said that the builders violated the approval given to them.
