Dani Alves Set To Reunite With Xavi At Barcelona

Barcelona have announced they have reached an agreement to bring Dani Alves back to the club.

The Brazil international, now 38, left Sao Paulo in September and has been a free agent since, but will return to Camp Nou for the rest of the season.

Barça, who hailed Alves as the best right back in their history in an official statement, confirmed that Alves will begin training with the first team next week, but cannot be registered until January.

“Although his main role has always been in defence, in the true Brazilian wing-back tradition, Alves also likes to join the attack, where he has a fine shot from outside the area, earning him the reputation as one of the finest players of all time in his position,” Barcelona’s statement read.

“He was an automatic choice under all of Pep Guardiola, Tito Vilanova, Tata Martino and Luis Enrique, and the fans loved his dedication and extroverted character. In the summer of 2016, he left for Juventus, and since then has been at Paris Saint-Germain and lastly, at São Paulo back in his home country.”

Alves first joined Barcelona from Sevilla in 2008 and made 391 appearances in his first spell for La Blaugrana, and now has a chance to add to the 43 trophies he’s already won in his career.

It was reported earlier on Friday that new Barcelona head coach and Alves’ former teammate Xavi personally intervened to help get a deal over the line when it was thought to be hitting the rocks.
