Gov Zulum Postpones Commissioning Of Projects In Honour Of Slain General

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has postponed his scheduled commissioning of projects across local Government areas in southern Borno, to honour the Commander, 28 Task Force Brigade, Chibok, Brigadier General Dzarma Zirkusu and three soldiers who died at the weekend, during a battle with terrorists who failed in an attempt to capture a military base in Askira-Uba local Government area.

The postponement of the commissioning exercise was disclosed by his spokesman, Isa Gusau in a statement made available to  GreenWhiteGreen GWG on Monday.

The tour was to start on Tuesday with dozens of completed Government projects, mostly schools and healthcare centres, lined up for commissioning by the Governor.

Announcing the postponement, Zulum’s spokesman, Malam Isa Gusau, said the Governor will undertake the commissioning tour, after traveling on Tuesday, to visit the family of late General Zirkisu who live outside Borno State.

Zulum’s trip is to convey the deepest sympathy of the Government and people of Borno State for the sacrifice of the slain general.

 GreenWhiteGreen GWG had reported that General Zirkusu was killed in an ambush staged by ISWAP insurgents on a convoy of troops in the area.

The fight was in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno according to a statement issued by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu.

Nwachukwu said that the fierce encounter which was supported by the Air Component of OPHK had deployed five A-Jet, two A-29, two Dragon combat vehicles and nine Gun Trucks and APC against the terrorists.

According to him, Brig.-Gen. Dzarma Zirkusu and three soldiers paid the supreme sacrifice having successfully defended the civilians in the town.
