FCT Administration on Tuesday in Abuja raided and confiscated vehicles belonging to some Bureau De Change (BDC) operators for allegedly turning a green area into a parking lot.

Head, Directorate of Road Transport Services Task Team, Adamu Maiwada, who made the disclosure, decried the illegal conversion of the green area into a parking lot.

Maiwada said vehicles confiscated during the exercise and those impounded during its operation in October would be taken to a mobile court so as to prosecute the owners.

“We impounded 26 vehicles. Maybe the owners feel that government is not serious about its clean-up exercise, but they are mistaken as we are determined to do our job, and we are not going to be tired.

“This is because the government is supporting us with the necessary incentives and we will continue to discharge our duties,’’ he stated.

On his part, Secretary, FCT Command and Control Centre, Peter Olumuji, said there was no justification for the BDC operators’ action.

He said the affected BDC operators’ leadership confirmed that it had been informed not to park cars in undesignated areas.

“What they are doing is illegal and the administration cannot tolerate it. The government had given them places where they can transact their businesses without hindrance.

“This operation is a continuous exercise and as long as they are not ready to obey the law, we too will not be tired of ensuring that we enforce their removal from illegal spots,’’ he said.
