More Knocks For Sanwo-Olu As White Paper Rejects Panel Findings

Following the release of the White Paper on the Lagos Judicial Panel of Inquiry’s report on the events of October 20, 2022, on Tuesday night, the Lagos state government and Gov Babajide Sanwo-Olu have come in for more criticism.

The White Paper faulted the panel’s report that nine persons were killed at the Lekki Tollgate and described the claim as “assumptions and speculations”.

Although it accepted that October 20 be made a toll-free day at the Lekki Toll Gate every year and also to designate a ‘Peace Park’ to ‘serve as reminder’ of peaceful protest.

The contents of the White paper didn’t sit well with most users on social media, who took to their platforms to further criticise Gov Sanwo-Olu’s administration, with the Lagos governor already been put on blast earlier in the day for inviting Lagosians and other civil activists to a peace walk in December.

Some users dismissed the need for a white paper, while some trashed the report in its totality. Others had just choice words for Gov Sanwo-Olu.

Here are some reactions gathered by GwG from Twitter

@Morris_Monye You set up panel for yourself to investigate yourself and they presented their findings to you yourself. Now you do a white paper and say all the bad things the panel said about you are “assumptions and speculation” Na wa o. Are we serious at all in this country?

@AbdulMahmud01 As expected, Sanwo-Olu’s White Paper on Lagos State #Endsars Report whitewashes the army with falsehood: nobody was killed in Lekki Tollgate. “No evil deed can go unpunished. Any evil done by man to man will be redressed, if not by man then by God”… -Dele Giwa

@ShehuSani The Lagos #whitepaper is a Whitewash. Cherrypicking the truth from the buffet of truths.

@amid_temitayo Lagos State white paper rubbishes judicial panel report on Lekki massacre, #EndSARS we Nigerian youths reject the Sanwo-Olu’s dark paper & doom walk. How did they arrived dat d only person died without d full report. There’s no peace without d justice, truth will come out one day.

@ayemojubar Nobody needs a whitepaper to prove that a massacre took place at Lekki tollgate on 20.10.2020.

@Emveepee1 It was a tactical political move from Sanwo Olú. The whitepaper supports initial Govt stand on #EndSARS, want to throw few naira around as compensation and walk around the street with some faces of the protest to give the Govt legitimacy and good PR. End game = 2023.

@ChNnadozie The Lagos state white paper on the #EndSARS report is trash and should be consigned to the dustbin of history, where it belongs. The weak and the oppressed will never get justice under this irresponsible APC govt. The judicial panels were setup just to waste our time

@Integrity56 The white paper issued by the Lagos State Govt regarding d report of the #EndSARs judicial panel is pure hogwash. Sanwo Olu has again pissed on the graves of our fallen heroes. He is not committed to peace & reconciliation, he has failed to embrace truth. No Justice, No Peace.

@DejiAdesogan I’m currently reading Lagos State Government WHITE PAPER on the report submitted by #EndSARS Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Police Brutality and Lekki Toll Gate Incident. It’s Explosive & Intriguing.

@alaoaf Lagos white paper, actually a black paper

@Dontee___ Lagos State Governor is Mad… The white paper released by the Government describes the killing of #EndSARS Protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate as mere speculations. Konidafun yin Sir.

@eze_tweets No matter how white the Lagos State government wants this white paper to look, it has bloodstains all over it. There can be no peace without justice.
