ISWAP bombs Maiduguri

Multiple bombs allegedly launched by ISWAP, early Saturday rocked Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, PRNigeria gathered from credible local sources.

The explosions occurred at 1,000 Estate, and Ngomari Airport Road.

The attack, PRNigeria learnt, was launched by ISWAP terrorists from Duwari, a village close to Maiduguri.

The terrorists fired mortar bombs at the Estate and Airport Road’s communities, the sources disclosed.

Several houses were said to have been destroyed, while many residents scamper for safety.

A staff of an emergency agency said casualty couldn’t be determined due to sanitation exercise.

“The number of casualties is yet to be confirmed because there is an ongoing sanitation exercise this Saturday morning. Many people stay at home,” he said.

Meanwhile, before ISWAP hurled the bombs on Maiduguri, the the Victims Support Fund (VSF), on Friday commended the ongoing surrender by insurgents and promised to assist in area of social cohesion.

The Executive Director of VSF, Prof. Nana Tanko, who spoke to newsmen on the development on Friday in Maiduguri, said that VSF has over the years been working to ensure social cohesion in returnee communities displaced by insurgency and would do same in resettlement of victims identified among the surrendered insurgents.

“We want to commend the government of Borno over the recent surrender.

“We are standing by to see how through our social cohesion project can help communities handle some of the returnee victims.

“I call them victims because some of them taken to the other side are real victims,” Tanko said.

Tanko noted that one of the rehabilitation centres being used for keeping some of repentant Boko Haram members was reconstructed with support from VSF.
