Amid adulations from aides and political associates on the 79th birthday of President Muhammadu Buhari, former presidential aide Reno Omokri has taken a detour on his social media handles with a cryptic post praying that the president be valued as the national currency, the naira, and be respected as the Nigerian passport is abroad.

In a post with anecdotes pointing to the perceived challenges of the Buhari administration, Omokri wrote:

”I mark General Buhari’s alleged 79th birthday, by wishing him as much happiness as he has given Nigerians, and as much prosperity as he has given our countrymen and women, and as much personal security as he has given citizens of our dear country. May he be as fulfilled as the fulfilment of the campaign promises he made. May he be as valued as the Naira is valued. And finally, May he be as respected as he has made Nigeria’s passport and image internationally respected in Christ’s Name,” Omokri said in his birthday message to Buhari.

However, Reno Omokri’s former principal, President Goodluck Jonathan in his message departed from the tone of his former subordinate as he congratulated President Buhari on the 79th birthday and prayed God to grant him good health, peace and long life.

Dr. Jonathan also noted Buhari’s contributions to the development of Nigeria and commended the President for his support and commitment to the peace mediation of the Economic community of West African States (ECOWAS) in Mali.

The former President who stated this in a goodwill message he personally signed, also wrote: “I am delighted to join your family, friends, well-wishers and fellow compatriots to celebrate you on the occasion of your 79th birthday.

“Your Excellency, as a statesman and patriot, you have made significant contributions to the development of our country, occupying different leadership positions at different political eras.
