Inmate Who Escaped From Benin Jail Nabbed For Kidnapping

The Edo State Police Command has rescued four kidnap victims and arrested one of the suspected kidnappers who happens to be an escaped inmate from the Oko Correctional Centre in Benin during the #EndSARS protests.

Spokesperson of the command, Kontongs Bello, in a statement on Friday, said that the arrested suspect turned out to be one of the inmates who escaped from Oko Correctional Centre in Benin city during the October 2020 #EndSARS protest in the state.

“On the 29th of December, at about 2.00 pm, Operatives of the Edo State Police Command through Ugbowo division led by the Divisional police officer (DPO), CSP Albert Udeme received information that hoodlums suspected to be kidnappers have kidnapped kelvin Omonedo, Adeleke Wasiu at Olienhen street and proceeded to Ukhumwem Road in Benin City, where they also kidnapped the duo of Irene Edenabuohen and Rosemary Ojegue.” Bello stated. 

“On receipt of the information, police operatives from the division immediately swung into action, trailed and engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel, the superior firepower of the team of operatives made the hoodlums abandon the four victims and arrested one of the suspect’s Over Jamker who hails from Ughelli, Delta state also an escapee from Oko Correctional centre during the end SARS protest of 2020.

Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing gang members.”
