Osinbajo congratulate Tinubu

Supporters of the alleged 2023 presidential bid of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo have said that they would not be cowed by the Monday declaration by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of his intention to vie for the presidency.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Tinubu formally confirmed his intention to vie for the presidency on Monday following a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Among his potential rivals are Osinbajo whose emergence on the political landscape was facilitated by Tinubu.

Osinbajo had served as a commissioner in the Governor Tinubu government in Lagos State for eight years. It has also been claimed that Tinubu worked for the emergence of Osinbajo as vice-president.

Replying to Tinubu’s declaration, the TPP, one of the numerous pro-Osinbajo campaign groups speaking through the chairman of chairman of the Public Opinion Leaders Group, a unit of The Progressive Project (TPP), Shettima Umar Abba Gana said:

“What is happening is democracy, he (Bola Tinubu) wants to run, we want our own man (Osinbajo) to run. That is the beauty of democracy; we want our man to come out because we believe he has some good qualities.

“Bola Tinubu also has some qualities, let them all come out; democracy cannot be only one aspirant let them all come out that is democracy.”

Gana said contrary to widespread belief, “Osinbajo did not tell us to come out and campaign for him. We came together on our own and want him to come out and contest and we’re hoping that he’ll come out because he is a very good candidate.

“In a democracy, everybody has his own opinion, his own wish and his own vote. Let them come out and let us go to the field. “Ours is that this man is good, let him come out and we’ll support him. What we’re doing has nothing to do with Bola Tinubu coming out or not, let him come out and let everyone that wants come out. It’s a democracy that is not a problem”.

Tinubu while also dismissing comparison between his bid and that of Osinbajo said:

“I don’t want to discuss individuals now. I must discuss myself. I have the confidence, the vision, the capacity to rule, build on the foundation of Mr President, and turn Nigeria better.

“I’ve done that with yielding commitment in Lagos State. You’ve seen that experience and the capacity to turn things around and that is what we’re doing.”
