Lagosians Decry Annual 292,000 Levy On Bus Drivers

Lagosians on social media have lamented the N800 daily levy for bus drivers in the state following an agreement by the Lagos state government, local governments, transport unions, and state agencies.

The levy will see each driver remit at least N292,000 annually in addition to other transport union dues.

According to the Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Rabiu Olowo, the N800 levy covers monies for the local government, clearing of waste from the motor parks, which was being paid to the Lagos State Waste Management Agency (LAWMA). It also covers pollution dues which were collected by Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA).

Following the announcement of the N800 levy, some social media users lamented the increase, saying the passengers will suffer for it due to a certain hike in transport fares by bus drivers to cope with the levy.
