Intrigues As Tinubu, Osinbajo’s Supporters Flaunt Governors’ Backing

Supporters of the assumed 2023 presidential aspiration of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and those of his political benefactor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu were at the weekend flaunting what they claimed was the backing of the powerful club of governors in the All Progressives Congress, APC.

While Tinubu has declared his interest for what he last month said was his life ambition to be president of Nigeria, Osinbajo has yet to formally make an interest. However,  GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that his supporters have been all about the country setting up structures for what promises to be a showdown with Tinubu his political godfather.

Declaring the support of 14 governors in the Tinubu project, former member of the House of Representatives, Mr Abdulmumin Jibrin, and Director-General of the Bola Tinubu Support Group Council, also said that 26 APC state chairmen had also confirmed their loyalty to Tinubu.

He made the disclosure on twitter on Friday.

He said:

“Fourteen governors in and four in talks. Twenty-six state chairmen in. We will not attack or stop anybody from contesting. We are exercising our right of choice by promoting Alhaji Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Do the same for your’s please. We will remain gracious and our doors (are) open now and after the victories.”

Jibrin, however, did not reveal the identities of the governors and state chairmen he claimed are backing Tinubu.

Jibrin’s boast about governors’ support for Tinubu came as supporters for Osinbajo said that besides governors, ministers and traditional rulers, that they also had God with them.

 GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Osinbajo is a pastor in the country’s largest Pentecostal denomination, The Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG.

The Convener and National Coordinator of Yemi Osinbajo for President Support Group, Ben Akinbobola, told Saturday Punch:

“The Osinbajo for President project is a divine one. God is with us and there are others like governors, ministers, traditional rulers, and members of the National Assembly who are with us. When the time comes, they will on their own, come out and speak. We are not boasters, but realists.”
