Manchester United may be in the midst of media criticism and supposed dressing room disagreements, but they put all of those negativity behind them and put in a fine performance to defeat Leeds 2-4 at Elland Road.

Already deranged Leeds saw the Red Devils pile more misery on them as they lost a fierce England Derby on home soil.

Leeds came into to the game having won just one of their last 16 league games against United, beating them at Elland Road in September 2002, and Sunday’s encounter was yet another disappointment as Manchester United inflicted more damage on the home side.

United dominated the first half, going into the break 2-0 up courtesy of goals from Captain Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes, but as they have always done all through the season, United threw away that lead in a 2-minute span very early in the second half as Leeds levelled the score line through Raphinha. Ralf Ragnick made two substitutions and they paid off immensely as Fred and Anthony Elanga came off the bench to bring up the goods for United and secure an important 2-4 win for them in the chase for Champions League qualification.

Manchester United’s all round play was superb but a man of the match performance by Jadon Sancho stole the headlines, as the Englishman played an instrumental role in the win with two assists.

With the Red Devils now four points clear of 5th placed West Ham following that win, here are key facts from the game;

• Bruno Fernandes is the first Manchester United player to score four league goals against Leeds United in a single season.

• Manchester United scored a Premier League goal from a corner for the first time since April 2021 against Burnley. Prior to the game, the Red Devils had taken more corners in the division this season without scoring from such situation than any other side (138).

• Manchester United have scored nine Premier League goals versus against United this season, the most they have netted against the Whites in a single league campaign.

• Manchester United have scored 10 Premier League goals via substitutes this season, four more than any other side. Indeed, five of those substitute goals have come under Ralf Ragnick.

• Cristiano Ronaldo last faced Leeds United 18 years and 125 days ago. His appearance today marks the longest ever gap for a player between games against a specific opponent in the Premier League.
