Dr Isaiah Osifo in this piece replies to the weekend articulation by Prince Kassim Afegbua on the aspiration of Atiku Abubakar for the 2023 presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP rebuffing his objections arcane, self-serving and inconsistent with the political sagacity of the former vice-president.

Kassim Afegbua is a personal friend that l really admire. He is an easy-going guy and has elements of humility.

There are many Presidential hopefuls on the platform of PDP. Why is Kassim graduating his anxiety to psychosis on the premise of the Presidential ambition of Atiku Abubakar?

Atiku Abubakar is a Social Democrat and had invested his resources in the political struggles against tyrants and tyranny in the Nigeria more than any living politician in Nigeria. He is the most qualified person to lead the opposition party in any capacity against the misrule of APC government in Nigeria.

Age is a number. What is required for good governance is patriotism, sound health, sound mind, and knowledge. The grace of God is upon the life of Atiku  Abubakar and has qualities for good governance in abundance.

Good age of Nelson Mandela was not a barrier to his good governance in South Africa. The most democratic nation in the world, USA, elected Joe Biden as the president of USA at the age of 78. Joe Biden has not renounced his aspiration for a second term when he will be 82 years. His Republican rival, Donald Trump has commenced campaign to contest the presidency  of USA in  2024, when he will be 75 years old.

2023 PDP Ticket: Why Afegbua Should Stop Looking At Atiku’s Age

Kassim Afegbua, my wish and prayers for you is to live long in sound health for you to continue your good work for our dear country Nigeria. Stop castigating a man on ground of good age. To live long and be strong is body and mind is a special gift of God that we should all pray for.

Atiku Abubakar is aware of zoning in the affairs of political parties. PDP has not zoned it’s Presidential ticket to any part of Nigeria. Anybody from any part of the country can contest for the presidential ticket of PDP. Nigerians are desperate on the termination of APC government in Nigeria and the major opposition party is committed to the defeat of APC in the next presidential election.

Common sense and object strategy will demand a reasonable choice, not on zone, religion or tribe that can give victory to PDP and Nigerians. The performance of Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 presidential election was excellent and many Nigerians, including you (Kassim Afegbua) believe that Atiku won the election and was deprived of the office by the wobbling bureaucracy of Nigeria.

I have heard you severally saying that Atiku Abubakar abandoned his followers and went to Dubai after the election. He reacted appropriately to the outcome of the election by going to court to challenge the result that was announced by INEC.

Atiku Abubakar’s fidelity to the Rule of Law and his abiding faith and respect for the Nigeria Judiciary is well known. He respected the verdict of the Courts and would have been evil for any one to suggest otherwise after the decision of the Supreme Court.

If there is any PDP aspirant with better spread, patriotic political antecedents and better message than Atiku Abubakar he/she should give you the message to spread and convince the delegates to vote for the person.

If you don’t have a better alternative, what happened in 2018 PDP presidential primaries in Port Harcourt, when Atiku Abubakar polled the votes equal to the total votes of all the other 12 contestants put together will repeat itself, or even better.
