Expectations that Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State will return as chairman of the Caretaker Extraordinary and Convention Planning Committee, CECPC of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have been dismissed by Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State who on Wednesday said the erstwhile chairman plotted to sabotage the party’s national convention.

Speaking in an interview, Governor El-Rufai said that President Muhammadu Buhari and 19 governors of the party endorsed the sack of Buni upon what he claimed as secret plots by the former chairman to sabotage the APC convention of the party through surrogates who had obtained a secret court order.

Speaking on a Channels Television’s programme Politics Today on Wednesday evening, Governor El-Rufa’i said Buni, who is currently out of the country reportedly for medicals, can only return as governor of Yobe, but not as chairman of the ruling party.

“Buni is gone, the secretary is gone. Gov. Bello is in charge and he has the backing of President Muhammadu Buhari and 19 governors. Buni can only return as governor of Yobe but never as chairman of our party.

“President Buhari ordered his removal and this has been implemented. Governor Bello has taken over and things are moving according to plan. Party will be restored, convention will take place as scheduled. 19 governors and their deputies are solidly behind this move. Buni and his people got a court order to stop the convention but hid it,” El-Rufai said of the alleged plot by associates of Buni to sabotage the APC convention.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG had reported that Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State formally took over the affairs of the party as acting chairman on Monday. The new acting chairman who took over from Buni has put plans for the APC convention back on stream after the alleged act of sabotage.
