Abia 2023: PDP Yet To Decide On Zoning – Ikpeazu

Abia Ikpeazu zoning

Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is engaged in consultations on zoning the governorship ticket putting to light debate on the charter of equity that the state’s political leaders had in the past used in projecting governors of the state.

Governor Ikpeazu said the party would do what was right for the people.

The Nation reports that Ikpeazu was quoted to have said this when he received a PDP governorship aspirant in the state, Prof. Gregory Ibe, at his country home, Umuobiakwa, in Obingwa Local Government.

The governor, who said every segment and zone had capable individuals who possessed what it would take to successfully run the affairs of the state, dismissed insinuations that aspirants from Abia North had been disqualified from contesting the 2023 governorship election.

He expressed satisfaction with the quality and calibre of persons who had indicated interest in the race, reminding politicians that even with the number of qualified persons, only one person could be governor at a particular time.

The claim by Ikpeazu is bound to unsettle some political stakeholders who had taken the issue of zoning in Abia as a settled issue.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that PDP stakeholders in Abia North Senatorial District had earlier said that it was the turn of the area to produce the next governor of the state in 2022.

The party chieftains said this at a news conference in Umuahia last January adding that their agitation was in line with the spirit of zoning and Abia Charter of Equity.

The Spokesman of the group, Dr Eme Okoro, said that there was need for a peaceful transition of the governorship seat to Abia north “for justice, fairness and equity”.

According to him, the Charter of Equity, which is anchored on justice, fairness and equity, has served Abia very well and for the purposes it was established.
