A writer on Twitter has revealed how her relative’s wedding was called off because the two parties involved refused to take a marriage oath.

According to Harachi, after taking the oath, madness awaits the party who cheats.

“So apparently, in my community after the traditional rites and you perform this ritual. Your husband or wife runs mad if they cheat. Last month, my relative called of her wedding, previously discussed with her fiancée and they both agreed they won’t perform that rites.

“Few weeks to the wedding, he said his people insists that the rites most be done. The girl said that the only condition is that same thing will be done for him and they both will be guided it. He refused and she called of the marriage.

“It was very annoying cos I was amongst the first person to buy my asoebi and my Mum took it upon herself to talk about this issue to everybody that cares to listen. In her words “ Umunwanyi Kita nwere Obi”. Each time she says this, she looks at me.

In reaction to Harachi’s tweets, social media backed the lady, saying the husband has already planned to cheat in the marriage.

Here are some reactions gathered by GreenWhiteGreen

@ceemplybecca She returned the energy and that’s okay! If it’s the man too he’ll do same

@olamiteebo Lmao you can’t take the oath but you want her to do it? Very funny

@officialbobbyfredrick My question is why ask someone to swear when u can’t swear did they make fidelity for women alone? ????

@callmedamy She gave him the same treatment Nd he can’t take it ??

@goldherself That’s a nice one …is either we are in it together or non of us are. ????

@rossyflower Why is the man forcing her to do when he can’t do the same ? Talk of double standard ?

@ifeomaonye I love this generation of women. Bold, confident and present. I’m not marrying myself, why should the oath be one-sided? So I don’t deserve faithfulness? Was I made from the urine of God?

@vivispicy Simple and short, no much explanation. Marriage is not by force
