Endorsed Amaechi Ndume

Senator Ali Ndume has explained why he endorsed Rotimi Amaechi over Bola Tinubu, Yahaya Bello and other presidential aspirants in the All Progressives Congress, APC. According to him, Amaechi’s energy as demonstrated when he ran round the Port-Harcourt stadium penultimate Saturday has positioned him as someone with enough energy to tackle the problems of the country.

According to him, anyone above 65 should be disqualified from the presidential contest and hence his disqualification of Tinubu and other aspirants in that category. He also said that Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State was disqualified on the basis of zoning saying that the party had in principle resolved to zone the presidency to the South after fulfilling the earlier promise of zoning North in 2015.

Senator Ndume who spoke in a Channels Television interview said that the running round the stadium on the day Amaechi declared was intentional and was among reasons he endorsed the transportation minister.

“The others have crossed the line, Nigeria is in a critical stage and we need somebody that has the energy, the acceptability,” he said, adding that the decision to run round the stadium on his declaration was intentional.

“It was intentional to show that he has the energy. I told him you run, we walk.”

“If I am to do a screening I will screen anyone that is about 65,” Ndume said of his decision to screen out the likes of Tinubu and Osinbajo who was 65 last March.

In screening out Yahaya Bello who is under 50, he said:

“I have been an advocate that the president should come from the South. In 2015 it was agreed that the president should come from the North. For me Yahaya Bello is out.”

Continuing, on why he endorsed Amaechi over others, Ndume said:
“Amaechi stands out he is now the only bridge builder among the rest. Anything that you want of a president in Nigeria, Amaechi has it, he was a governor, for eight years, speaker for eight years and minister now for eight years.”

According to him in all the states that the campaign team has visited there is always somebody to stick out his neck for Amaechi.
