Liverpool overcame a lacklustre Manchester United 4-0 to go top of the Premier League table and extend their unbeaten record in the league to 13 matches as Mo Salah again again broke new records in the competition.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have now completed their first league double over the Red Devils since the German’s appointment in 2015.

Liverpool came into the game brimming with confidence after Saturday’s FA Cup semifinal victory over title rivals Manchester City, and they picked up exactly where they left off as Luiz Diaz scored inside the first five minutes of the game with a tap-in from close range.

The Reds were completely dominant in a one-sided first half at Anfield and they rounded up their superb display with their second from Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian doubled his team’s lead as he has now scored home and away against United this season, hitting 21 goals in the league this campaign.

United who had been very much invincible for much part of the game, came out strongly in the second half but as they have often been criticised for this season, failed to make most of their chances.

The game was however put behind Manchester United in the final 20 minutes as goals from Sadio Mane and Mo Salah completed a stunning night of football for Liverpool. They sit at the top of the table with two points ahead of rivals Man City who have a game tomorrow against Brighton.

Here are key facts from the game;

• Mohamed Salah is only the second player to both score and assist in home and away games against Manchester United in a single Premier League season, after Mesut Ozil in 2015-16.

• Manchester United have now conceded more Premier League goals against Liverpool (74) than against any other opponent in the competition.

• Mohamed Salah is the first player in Premier League history to score 5 goals against Manchester United in a single season.

• Manchester United have lost 0-9 on aggregate in their Premier League meetings with Liverpool this season. In their league history, they’ve only suffered a combined heavier defeat once – 0-11 vs Sunderland in 1892-93.
