THERE is palpable tension in the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP over alleged plots to stage the governorship primaries of in the Army Barracks, Ibagwa, Abak local government area.

The fear according to findings is coming largely from rivals of Pastor Umo Eno, the aspirant sanctioned by Governor Udom Emmanuel.

So far no fewer than seven other aspirants from Uyo senatorial district where the party zoned the ticket to have indicated interest.

Sources in Uyo disclosed that the plot flows from fears by the

According to the speculations making the rounds within the state capital that shifting the venue of the primary to the Army Barracks will allow sympatisers of the governor to lock out those who they felt were not supportive of the plan to make Pastor Eno the official PDP candidate.

A delegate, Mr Aniefiok Ekefre, who spoke with journalists in Uyo lamented that any venue outside the Uyo township stadium would not be acceptable to them.

“It must be one man one vote at the primaries. Let the popular and widely acceptable aspirant emerge. They told us that their preferred aspirant is the God’s choice for Akwa Ibom people, why arm-twisting the same people to embrace God’s choice? Akwa ibom people are now wiser and ready to change the narratives, and we are not leaving the party for opportunists”.

The state chapter of the PDP, however,  was yet to issue any statement as regards the venue for the party primaries.

She noted, “I am a member of the PDP. I am not aware of the said plan to relocate the venue for the party primaries to the Army Barracks, for me that is speculative. And should the party decide to use the Army Barracks I think for whatever reason, I strongly believe it is for good.

“Those delegates protesting maybe thinking about how to win the primaries, but they failed to consider their safety during the election. So If the party believes that using the Barracks based on security reasons, I don’t think there is anything wrong with that”
