Nasir Gawuna, Deputy Governor of Kano, has been anointed as the preferred choice of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 governorship election beating the former commissioner of local government affairs, Murtala Sule Garo who is believed to be the personal choice of the wife of the governor, Hafsat Ganduje.

Daily Trust reports that Gawuna’s choice was made at a stakeholders’ meeting that was presided over by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

Garo it was gathered is to emerge as the running mate following the decision of the stakeholders who partook in the meeting over choosing a successor to the outgoing governor of the state, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje.

The party leaders it was reported had a difficult time but eventually through the intervention of party elders and statesmen from the state were able persuade him to step down for the deputy governor, Gawuna.

Garo had been severally mentioned as a major contender for the governorship ticket upon the support he was believed to have from the influential wife of the governor, Hafsat Ganduje and also his control of the party structure especially through his former position as commissioner for local government affairs.

The possible victory of Gawuna would be the second successive time that a deputy governor of the state would emerge as governor succeeding a governor.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Ganduje was deputy governor to Rabiu Kwankwanso for two terms but both men fell apart not long after he became governor in 2015.
