Borussia Dortmund have officially completed the signing of German wonderkid Karim Adeyemi from Austrian club RB Salzburg, officially announcing the deal on social media, not long after Erling Haaland departed to join Manchester City.

The 20-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the Bundesliga side, meaning he will be at Dortmund until 2027, and will fundamentally replace Haaland as the main striker for the club.

Adeyemi is the third signing by Dortmund for the 2022-23 season, following the deals for Niklas Sule and Nico Schlotterbeck.

“Karim Adeyemi is a very talented young German international whose strength at the end of our attacking game will look just as good as his extreme speed,” said Michael Zorc, Dortmund’s sporting director.

The young, bright German has been in blistering form for RB Salzburg this campaign, leading them to become Austrian Bundesliga champions scoring 19 goals as the league’s top scorer, and also nudging up four goals in the UEFA Champions League.

Adeyemi uttered his enthusiasm for Dortmund, whom he had been following since he was a child.

“As a child, I was fascinated by the fast-paced football of Dortmund,” Adeyemi said.

“That is why it quickly became clear to me that I would like to sign for BVB when I heard about Dortmund’s interest. I deliberately signed a long-term contract because I am convinced that we will be an exciting team that, with the support of the fantastic Dortmund fans, will be able to play and win titles in the medium term.”
