APC Presidential Primary: What Hope For Yahaya Bello?

Published

Yahaya Bello

As the deadline for the submission of All Progressives Congress (APC) , the Yahaya Bello Presidential Campaign Organisation has expressed confidence in the ability of Bello to clinch the ticket.

The group described as unthinkable the fake report that the governor has dumped his presidential ambition for Senate seat in 2023.

Dr Yemi Kolapo, the Director, Media and Publicity of the campaign organisation advised those behind the unfounded news to verify their facts before feeding the public with what has no iota of truth

Kolapo claimed that more than half of the APC delegates are with Bello ahead of the coming primaries.

Since his formal declaration on April 2, Bello and his campaign organization have been very optimistic of his victory at both the primary and presidential election in 2023.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily a few days after his declaration, Governor Bello maintained that he would clinch the ticket even if the party adopts consensus, direct or indirect mode of primary elections.

Yahaya Bello has on several occasions said that the likes of Tinubu, Osinbajo and Amaechi can not intimidate him out of the presidential contest.  He has claimed that with the good work he has done in Kogi State, it time for him to replicate such at the centre.

“By the grace of God, we are going to pass through democratic process; consensus is part of it, voting is part of it, but I am confident that whichever way you go by, our party will come out the best by electing me as the flag bearer of the APC,” Bello insisted..

The question is what hope Bello has in the forthcoming primary. Apart from zoning that places Bello and the national chairman of APC, Abdullahi Adamu in the same North-central, Bello may not have the proper grip of delegates.  Majority of the people Bello claims are his supporters may not be among delegates in the May 30-31 presidential primaries of the party.

In terms of landmark achievement as governor, Yahaya Bello may find it difficult to showcase to Nigerians what he has done in Kogi State that would promote him through the presidential race to the number one position in the country.

Kogi is strategically located for anybody to verify the claim of transforming the state with dearth of infrastructure. The deplorable condition of major roads in the state is one thing that you don’t need to ask a question about.

The poor condition of primary and post primary schools in the state is regrettable.  I believe the people of Kogi can remember how many projects the Bello led administration has commissioned since its inception in 2016.   All these may matter in the presidential primary.
