APC Presidential Aspirant Defends His Marriage To 13 Year-Old Girl

All Progressives Congress, APC presidential aspirant, Senator Sayi Yerima has said that he did nothing wrong with his marriage to a 13 year-old girl, saying that there was no law against it.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the former Zamfara governor in 2009 married a 13-year old Egyptian girl a development that shocked the nation.

Yerima put forward his defence of his marriage to the 13 year old girl during an appearance on Channel Television.

His action had provoked child rights activist across the nation with suggestions that he should be prosecuted for his action.

However, defending his marriage to a 13 year-old girl, the APC presidential aspirant in an interview session on Channels Television, Yerima said:

“If I had done anything wrong, I would have been tried in court. NAPTIP wanted to try the case and they dropped the matter because I didn’t do anything wrong,” Mr Yerima said.

He added that “there is no law in Nigeria that determines when and how you get married. Muslims have Sharia, the Christians I don’t know what their doctrines say.”

Before the issue of his marriage, the APC presidential aspirant who served as governor of Zamfara State caused the state to become the first to introduce Sharia law in the country leading to the amputation of the wrists of two men Buba Jangabe and Lawali Isa after they were respectively found guilty of stealing a goat and a bicycle.
