Amid Controversy, Atiku Heads To Akwa Ibom To Woo PDP Delegates
By Lucky Itiaba
Atiku Abubakar was on Monday afternoon headed to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State to canvass for Peoples Democratic Party, PDP delegates despite controversies that had trailed initial news of his adventure to the state.
GWGNG reports that Atiku’s visit on Monday was swallowed in controversy after some sections of the media in the state reported that Governor Udom Emmanuel had fenced off the PDP delegates from meeting with Atiku.
Governor Emmanuel is himself an aspirant in the presidential contest. Many have also whispered that the Akwa Ibom governor may also be working in alliance with another northern presidential aspirant with the intention of fencing off Atiku and Governor Nyesom Wike.
The state commissioner for information and strategy, Comrade Comrade Ini Ememobong had at the weekend debunked the insinuations in the media of Governor Emmanuel fencing the Akwa Ibom PDP delegates from meeting with Atiku on Monday.
He said:
“The said news is totally incompatible with the known accommodating disposition of the Governor.
“The truth is that the Governor who has been in communication and contact with all other Presidential Aspirants (Atiku Abubakar inclusive) was informed that the former Vice President will be visiting on Monday, 16th May,2022 to meet with delegates and thereafter see him (Gov. Emmanuel) by 4pm, a proposal that was unhesitatingly accepted.
“It is therefore pure mischief for anyone to insinuate that the Governor is preventing Alhaji Abubakar from seeing delegates. Other Presidential Aspirants have visited the party in Akwa Ibom without a hitch, so why would Atiku’s be different?
“In the light of current circumstances surrounding Atiku’s media posture, especially online, we will like to discard the news item as not coming from them and not having the authorization of the Presidential Aspirant himself, especially since the allegation is not personally signed off and is not posted on any of his verified social media accounts.
“We urge the entire public to discountenance the fake news and treat it as an act of mischief of the highest order. Our delegates and team are waiting to receive the aspirant on the agreed date and time.”
A close associate of Atiku confirmed to GWGNG just before 4 pm that the Atiku team was about setting off from Jos, Plateau State to Akwa Ibom.
“Nothing like that, I am in the aircraft we are about leaving Jos now for Akwa Ibom,” the top Atiku associate confirmed of the move to woo Akwa Ibom PDP delegates.
