Rev Father Andrew Abayomi, one of the officiating priests at the St Francis Catholic Church, Owa-Luwa Street, Owo, Ondo State that was attacked by Fulani herdsmen on Sunday has opened up on the harrowing experience saying that they were forced to lock themselves in while the killing lasted.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG has reported how a band of suspected Fulani herdsmen cum terrorists on Sunday attacked a church in Owo, Ondo State and killed scores of people.

The video recording of the victims after the attack has moved a shocked Nigeria across ethnic and religious boundaries.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Yoruba, from his base in Owo, Ondo State, Rev Father Abayomi disclosed that the gunmen came just as the morning mass was rounding up and proceeded on a killing spree.

He further disclosed that the attackers appeared to have come from different directions in what was apparently a well planned and coordinated attack.

He added that they were forced to lock themselves inside for about 20 minutes while the terrorists discharged their evil fury.

“We were about to round off service. I had even asked people to start leaving, that was how we started hearing gunshots from different angles.

“We hid inside the church but some people had left when the attack happened. We locked ourselves in the church for 20 minutes. When we heard that they had left, we opened the church and rushed victims to the hospital.”

Meanwhile, both President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State have condemned the killings in the Owo church.
