Doubts Trail FG’s Claim Against ISWAP For Owo Church Attack

Published

on

The claim by the National Security and Defence Council on Thursday that the Islamic State, West African Province (ISWAP ) was responsible for the bloody attack at St Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State has been shadowed with doubts with many Nigerians accusing the government of running out of ideas on the state of insecurity in the country.

Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola had pointed at ISWAP for the deadly killing on Sunday, June 5 that left more than 25 people dead and many others injured.

According to Aregbesola, who spoke in the presence of the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, revealed that the culprits are being traced and security operatives are closing in on them.

“the council is gravely concerned about spate of blasphemy-linked killings and has directed security agents to hunt those behind the killing of Deborah Samuel Sokoto State and a more recent case in Abuja.” He said.

He also said that the police is yet to make any arrest in connection to the killing since Sunday just as he also debunked notions that the attack carried an ethnic-religious tint.

The government’s claims on the Owo church attack were shadowed with doubts from social media users as many alleged that ISWAP usually claims responsibility for their attacks.

See some reactions:

@cngamnori: ISWAP don’t wait until fingered , they release statement claiming responsibilities of their act, please FG call the real perpetrators and stop fingering ………

@chaseberryblaq: Omo! But it ISWAP usually claim their kills, why haven’t they come out this time around?

Or is the govt adopting this just to calm tension

@pdpnigeria1: That means ISWAP, the most brutal terrorist network in sub Saharan Africa are now in Yorubaland?

Everything you see in APC is a deliberate setup. You have the ticket, you face a huge security problem.

@sirmcawesome247: Aha! So, @MBuhari @OfficialAPCNg can finally admit that on their watch, Nigeria has become a terrorist state since ISWAP can strike so deep in the southwest.

Their usual excuse of killer herdsmen, bandits, ungun known men, etc no longer tickles their fancy. Isorait

@emf194: OK. When will they be arrested and paraded for all to see? Or will the government fold their hands until they carry out another attack?

@jkings_o: Lies, they want us to believe it’s Iswap as if it will make us feel better, the Fulanis are responsible, let’s call a spade a spade.
