The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State, Senator John Akpanudoedehe has congratulated the people of the state on the 2022 Democracy Day celebration and enjoined them to build upon the efforts of past democracy champions to ensure a better society.

In his message he said:

My fellow Akwa Ibom State citizens, I am grateful to God that we are alive today to witness the celebration of the 2022 Democracy Day.

Today marks the 23rd anniversary of unbroken democracy in our State and country, and we should pay our respects to those illustrious leaders, who contributed positively to build a solid foundation for our State.

It should also be a day to reflect on statehood and the duty we have as citizens, to uphold the noble values that should define our State and people.

We should note that we are a State widely renowned for hospitality, peace, and cordiality; as well as a State blessed with abundant natural resources; an educated and an industrious populace.

Throughout the three Senatorial Districts of our State, we have produced outstanding citizens who have either bettered or held their heads high among the best anywhere in our nation.

Our records of excellence date back to the early 20th Century, when as a people, we made advances hitherto unknown to, or unattained by other  ethnic groupings in our country.

Going into the details of the achievements of the Ibibio Union as far back as 1928, would serve little purpose here, as we are all aware of the pioneering roles of our great leading lights in the organisation.

Even women of our State, who participated in the Women’s Riots, made blazing contributions to national politics and governance as far back as 1929.

We have had resourceful youths, who have catapulted the State to the national and world stage in sporting, educational and other endeavours; and given the platform, would secure better gains.

Yes, we have all the potentials as a people and a State; but what will determine our output and our progress would undoubtedly be the leadership of our State.

On Democracy Day, Akpanudoedehe Urges Akwa Ibom Indigenes To Reflect

As we approach the 2023 Elections, I call on all Akwa Ibom indigenes to embark on deep reflection that should not exclude the determination and sacrifice of our founding fathers, to build us into a model State.

I call on our resourceful youths to dig deep within their innermost reserves; determine their strengths, and deploy them in the best interests of our State, and for posterity.

We were never known for brigandage, violence or lawlessness of any form, and so I urge our youths to refuse to be sponsored to perpetrate these, by political or other godfathers.

I am certain that a noble, willing and determined youth population  would provide a source of strength that would dictate government’s policy direction and development objectives.

This would encourage positivity among them, and encourage their consideration for developmental opportunities, and the platform to  express innate or acquired abilities in entrepreneurship, industrial, research, and other capacities including leadership.

Progressive youths will always churn out progressive future leaders.

The responsibility for building a better Akwa Ibom State lies with each and every one of us, and the choices we make under democratic elections are what determines the kind of leadership and society we will get.

May God help us as a people, to  reflect on the noble side of Statehood, and begin to build the foundation of the State we hope to bequeath to our succeeding generations.

Happy Democracy Day to all Akwa Ibom State citizens, and may God lead us henceforth to make the right contributions to the building of a better State.
