Things To Know About Ifeanyi Okowa, Atiku’s Running Mate

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP on Thursday afternoon announced the Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, as his running mate.

Before Okowa’s emergence as Atiku’s running mate, others reportedly shortlisted for the Vice President slot were his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike and the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel.

Here are things to know about Ifeanyi Okowa, Atiku’s running mate;

Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa a Nigerian politician and Governor of Delta state was born on July 8, 1959. He is from the Ika tribe and from Owa-Alero in Delta State, Nigeria. He attended Edo College, Benin City (1970–1976). After his secondary school education, he proceeded to the University of Ibadan where he studied Medicine and Surgery and graduated in 1981 with an MBBS degree.

After his National Youth Service (NYSC), he worked with the Bendel State Hospitals Management Board as a Medical Officer. He entered private practice as Director, Victory Medical Centre, Igbanke in 1986.

He was inaugurated as a governor on 29th May 2015 after winning the state governorship election conducted in April 2015.

Before his governorship, he was elected senator for Delta North Senatorial District in Delta State in the April 2011 national elections.

He ran on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party PDP.

He was re-elected as the governor of Delta State on May 29, 2019.
