Ibori Missing As Okowa, Uduaghan’s Inputs Surface In Delta Commissioners’ List

Ibori New Year

For the first time since the emergence of the Fourth Republic, the influence of Chief James Ibori has been cut off in the nomination of commissioners in Delta State with his two successors as governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan and Senator Ifeanyi Okowa making large inputs.

GWG.ng reports that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Wednesday nominated 26 commissioner-nominees to the State House of Assembly with some former cabinet members in the immediate past administration staging a comeback.

It is the first time since 1999 that no contemporary associate of Ibori is listed in the list of commissioner nominees. GWG.ng reports that even while he was in prison in the United Kingdom, Ibori was able to stamp his imprint in administrations in the state.

Ibori who was the first governor at the advent of the Fourth Republic had built a political machine around which his successors in Delta State emerged and regularly had input in the constitution of commissioners. However, his move to enthrone his former commissioner for finance, Olorogun David Edevbie against the counsel of the immediate past governor of the state, Okowa led to a political fight that saw Ibori demystified.

However, on the 26-man list sent to the State House of Assembly for confirmation Miss Orodje Uduaghan, the daughter of Emmanuel Uduaghan, Ibori’s successor. It is a fitting comeback and compensation for Ms Uduaghan after she was defeated in the State House of Assembly election primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP at the time that the Ibori-Okowa fight was taking shape.

Her father, Dr Uduaghan had taken a position against Ibori’s choice, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege on the claim that the APC governorship candidate was one that could not be approached, unlike Oborevwori who incidentally served him as an aide while he was governor.

Okowa’s imprint in the list is seen in the nomination of four former commissioners that served in his government. They include Charles Aniagwu (Information), Chief Tilije Fidelis Okenmor (Finance), Rose Ezenwu (secondary education), and Kingsley Ashibuogwu (higher education).

Other Okowa associates in the list include Odingwe Odige Daniel, Hon Joan Onyemaechi Adanioma, Jerry Ehiwario, Micheal ifeanyi Anoka, Hon. Pat Ajudua.

The governor also nominated Barrister Funyei Manager, Angele Godknows, Perez Omoun, Isaac Tosan Wilkie, Oligida Samuel, Prof. Tonukari Johnbull, Jamani Tommy Ejiro, Hon Onos Agofure, Olorogun Oyibode Vincent, Emamusi Obiodeh.

Also nominated include, Etagherure Ejiro Terry, Agbateyimiro Isaac Weyinmi, Sonny Akpororkimo Ekedayen, Darlington Ijeh, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme and Hon. Izeze Rume Yakubu Reuben.

With his influence now cut off from the government and without a nominee in the commissioners nominated, Ibori may now be reckoned as the unofficial leader of the opposition in Delta State.
