Mutterings Continue In PDP As Fayose Dumps Atiku

Former Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has demanded power shift to the South, saying it would be unfair for a Northerner in the person of Atiku Abubakar to step into office after President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight years.

Fayose, an ally of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, is among those who contested the presidential ticket of the opposition party, won by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

After the primaries, the PDP had called on all its stakeholders to close ranks and work towards wresting power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, the PDP started experiencing post primary crisis after Atiku chose Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as his running mate.

Atiku picked Okowa over Wike despite the recommendation of some party leaders.

Shortly after this, Goddsday Orubebe, former Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, dumped the opposition party.

On Wednesday, Fayose said it is the turn of the southern region to produce a president.

“The PDP Constitution provides for a rotational Presidency. Section 3(c) provides that the Party shall pursue its aims & objectives by adhering to the policy of the rotation & zoning of Party & Public elective offices in pursuance of the principle of equity, justice and fairness.

“The current President of Nigeria is a 2-term Northern Presidency, thus implying that it MUST be a Southern Presidency in 2023 or NOTHING. Awa ‘South’ lo kan’.”

Hours before Fayose’s tweet, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State had said Wike would have been a better running mate to Okowa.
