Obaseki Laments Death Of Political ‘Father’, Uyigue
Governor Godwin Obaseki, has paid a condolence visit to the family of late Elder Sunny Uyigue, a chieftain of the Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) whom he described as a political father.
The governor who led other top government functionaries on the condolence visit, said the history of Midwest politics will not be complete without mentioning late Pa. Sunny Uyigue.
He said, “The history of modern day Edo politics, in fact, Midwest politics, will not be complete without mentioning Pa. Sunny Uyigue. We will miss him because he was an encyclopedia of our politics.”
“He told me several years ago that he joined politics in my grandfather’s sitting room, and that was why he adopted me as his political son. I know as a father, you will be sad because he is not here physically anymore,” Governor Obaseki said in reference to how the late Uyigue became a political father to him.
“You should all be proud and glad that you have a father like Pa. Sunny Uyigue, because he opened the doors to all of you who are involved in politics. He did his own bit in his time. We are here to let you know how much we appreciate him in the political circle of the Midwest and Edo State in particular.”
“His loss is not just a loss to the immediate family. It is even a bigger loss to his political family. I believe that what is left is for us to celebrate his life and times, because I know that is what he will wish for. We are here as part of that family,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Mr Imasuen Uyigue, said that the visit of the governor and his entourage has further strengthened them, said the visit also demonstrates that their father lived a good life.
