Benzema Wins Big As UEFA Announces Best Awards – [Full List]
French professional footballer and Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzema was on Thursday named UEFA Player of the Year.

GWG reports that the Best Player (individual award) was announced in Istanbul, Turkey, as the European football governing body made draws for the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League group stage.
Benzema beat the likes of Thibaut Courtois and Manchester City forward, Kevin De Bruyne to emerge the winner of the men’s award category.
28-year-old Alexia Putellas, playing as a midfielder for Primera División club Barcelona, bagged the award for the women’s category.

Meanwhile, besides the news of Benzema winning the UEFA player of the year, GWG reports that the Super Eagles of Nigeria have maintained 31st position in the world in the August FIFA ranking.
According to the ranking table published on FIFA’s verified page on Thursday, the Jose Peseiro-tutored players maintained the 1,504.7 garnered points in July.
On the continental level, they are still placed fourth behind Senegal (18), Morocco (23) and Tunisia (30).
On the global scene, with five major tournaments in different parts of the world, international women‘s football has hogged the headlines in recent months.
