Breaking: Appeal Court Restores Sheriff Oborevwori As Delta PDP Governorship Candidate

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has restored the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Sheriff Francis Oborevwori as the Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 governorship election in Delta State.

The decision of the appellate court came as it on Monday voided and set aside the judgment of the Federal High Court which on July 7, 2022, nullified his nomination on ground of certificate forgery and perjury.

The Federal High Court had acted upon a petition brought by Olorogun David Edevbie upon claims that Oborevwori forged the credentials upon which he presented to the screening committee to qualify him for the contest.

GWG reports that Oborevwori is backed by the camp of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa who is the outgoing governor of the state and Vice-Presidential candidate of the PDP.

Edevbie on the other hand is allegedly backed by Chief James Ibori, the first Fourth Republic governor of the state under whom both Okowa and Edevbie served as commissioners.

The PDP in Delta State in a clear sign of relief immediately set out a congratulation to party stalwarts. State publicity secretary of the party, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza in a message affirmed that “Obstacles strengthen the determined,” as he expressed congratulations to all Deltans.

However, whether the same message would be received with equanimity in the camp of Olorogun Edevbie is one that Deltans would see as there are expectations that the case may end in the Supreme Court after the appellate court in its decision ruled to restore Sheriff Oborevwori as the PDP governorship candidate.
